The St. Lucie County Fire District's Explorer Post Number 448 is a Learning-for-Life chartered organization. Learning-for-Life allows our youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. Explorer Post Number 448 offers this and much more. Operating with a handful of dedicated advisors and volunteers, our Explorers learn first-hand how exciting and difficult the firefighter's job is by working side-by-side with actual St. Lucie County Firefighters.
Learning For Life, Online Training Course
After a rigorous training regime, consisting of many hours of classroom and practical applications, our Explorers respond to real emergencies with firefighters and paramedics, and assist them by safely performing routine, supervised tasks. Explorers are also medically trained to provide many basic first aid functions such as assess vital signs, apply oxygen, set up a basic EKG, cervical spine immobilization and perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The Explorers can advance hose lines, apply a fire stream, set up a ladder and perform search and rescue tasks. In addition to these, Fire Explorers assist with many of the routine tasks around the fire station as well as various functions within our community. Through these fire service activities, we will be successful in our mission to instill core values in young people, and prepare today's youth to achieve their full potential in the fire service.
