CLERK-TREASURER

Gary Perdew grew up in St.
Lucie County, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. His service
stretched from the Vietnam War (serving in a Combat Support Group)
through Dessert Storm. Among his military awards are the Meritorious
Service Medal, two Air Medals, three Air Force Commendation Medals
and the National Defense Ribbon.
While in the service, Mr. Perdew earned his BA from St. Leo College. He also attended Officer Training School. After the service,
he earned his MBA from the University of West Florida. In 1997, Mr. Perdew
returned to St. Lucie County, accepting the position of
Principal Analyst for the St. Lucie County Board of County
Commissioners. In 2004 he assumed the duties of Clerk-Treasurer for
the Fire District.
The Fire District Clerk-Treasurer is one of three positions
appointed by the Fire District Board. The other positions are the
Fire Chief and the Attorney.
During his tenure with the Fire District, the Clerk-Treasurer has:

- Maintained a very low debt ratio by adhering to a strict
“pay as you go” basis for funding capital improvement
projects.
- Fully funded Emergency/Contingency Fund
- General Fund revenues continuously exceeded expenses.
