		MEDICAL DIRECTOR Chichiou Liu M.D. has provided over 27 years of service as the Medical Director for the St. Lucie County Fire District. In 2003, Shareef Babar M.D. was appointed by the Fire Board as Assistant to the medical director. Dr. Shareef is a practicing cardiologist in St. Lucie County, and is very helpful in assisting with major policy issues that are raised in relation to the medical care of cardiac patients. Dr. Liu serves as the chairman of the Medical Review Board. This board meets on a monthly basis, and is responsible for quality assurance/quality improvement, which is a peer review of the SLCFD emergency medical services. The board makes recommendations to the Fire Chief and the Chief of Operations for actions that may be necessary to resolve identified deficiencies. Dr. Liu assists the District in administrative decision-making policy and procedures for the Emergency Medical Service. He monitors several programs including, the controlled substance and infection control programs, and assists in meeting Florida Administrative Code, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services requirements, and Federal and State Laws affecting EMS.
